I’m Elinor, the artist and designer behind Elinor Katharine Ceramics.
My work has always been deeply rooted in nature and in the quiet beauty of the imperfect. I’m drawn to organic forms, subtle rhythms, natural textures, and the delicate irregularities found in the world around us. This way of seeing has become more than an artistic inspiration. It is a reflection of how I choose to live.
For years, I worked primarily with porcelain, hand throwing and slab forming each piece before drawing and painting every design by hand. I loved the intimacy of this process, the delicacy of porcelain, the movement of the brush, and the individuality that comes from creating each piece by hand.
My practice is now evolving into a more sculptural language. I am working with stoneware, shaping and sculpting each form directly by hand and allowing the clay to guide the process. I am drawn to the warmth, strength, and grounding quality of stoneware, and to the freedom it gives me to explore more organic and tactile forms.
Rather than striving for perfect symmetry, I embrace gentle irregularities, unexpected curves, and the marks left by the hand. Each piece is allowed to develop its own character and presence.
This evolution feels deeply connected to wabi sabi, the appreciation of simplicity, impermanence, authenticity, and the beauty found in things that are perfectly imperfect.
Nature remains at the heart of my work. I look to its graceful imperfections, asymmetry, textures, and rhythms, translating these qualities into forms that feel both organic and refined.
Elegance, for me, is not about perfection. It is about restraint, authenticity, and finding beauty in what is natural and true.
My ceramics are a reflection of that philosophy, shaped slowly by hand, inspired by nature, and created to bring a sense of beauty into everyday life.
